Speaker Biographies Affirming the Faith 2018
Danny Boggs has been blessed to preach the gospel of Christ for more than 25 years. Since 2005 he has worked with the Hillcrest church of Christ in Neosho, Missouri. Every year he helps with mission work in Honduras and directs a week at Green Valley Bible Camp in Rogers, Arkansas. He received bachelor's and master's degrees from Freed-Hardeman University where he met his wife Jessica. They are thankful to be parents to three wonderful children.
Gary M. Bradley, Sr.
Gary and his wife have three children, six grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. Gary, Jr. is a prosecuting attorney in Shelby County, Alabama and also preaches at the Clanton Church of Christ. Cindi speaks at ladies’ conferences and has recently authored a devotional book. Gary has preached in Alabama & Tennessee and has been the Minister for the Mayfair Church of Christ in Huntsville since 1979. Gary received his D. Min. degree from Alabama Christian School of Religion. Gary’s passion is Cuba where he has made over 20 trips.
Lives in Old Hickory, TN. Married to former Jodie Galloway since 1990. Two married children – Chet (Rachel) Duke and Hannah (David) Lee. Graduate of Memphis State University and University of Tennessee. Worships and serves as an elder at the Mt Juliet congregation since 2012. Former Human Resources professional. Owner/publisher of the Gospel Advocate since April 2016.
He grew up in the fourth generation of Hartman's who attended the Sayre church of Christ in Western Oklahoma. He has been a camper, counselor and director at Quartz Mountain Christian Camp and continues to be involved with the camp. He attended Oklahoma Christian University, Harding Graduate School, and Macquarie University in Sydney. While at Oklahoma Christian he met his wife Sheila. She currently is a reading specialist for elementary children at risk. They have three married children (a son and two daughters) and eight grandchildren. They lived in Sydney for nearly twelve years and he continues to make annual trips to work with the church in Australia. Dale currently serves as the pulpit minister and one of the elders at the Eastside congregation. He has completed thirty-nine years with the Eastside congregation.
Steve Higginbotham has been preaching for 34 years. He is presently the preaching minster at the Karns Church of Christ in Knoxville, TN and is also one of the instructors at the Southeast Institute of Biblical Studies.
Jerrell (Jerry) Hill
This Tennessee “Country Boy” grew up on a farm. Most of his young life he thought he was always going to be a farmer; however, after High School he decided to go to college and become a Christian minister. He graduated from Harding University in 1957 and set out to change the world with his new bride, Fern. Hill and his wife, Fern, are co-founders of the Timothy Hill Children’s Ranch. This non-profit organization is named after their oldest son, Timothy, who died in a bicycle accident in Riverhead in 1972. The Ranch was incorporated in 1976 and opened its doors to children in 1980.
Dr. Michael Houts has a PhD in Nuclear Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and currently serves as Nuclear Research Manager for NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, AL. Prior to joining NASA, Dr. Houts worked 11 years with Los Alamos National Laboratory serving in various positions including Team Leader for Criticality, Reactor, and Radiation Physics and Deputy Group Leader of the 70-person Nuclear Design and Risk Analysis Group. Dr. Houts grew up outside the church and was a staunch evolutionist through his early twenties. Dr. Houts and his wife were baptized into the Lord's church in 1999, and have two children.
Jeff A. Jenkins
Jeff has served as the preacher for the Lewisville church of Christ since 2004. He has been preaching for nearly forty years. He is a graduate of Freed-Hardeman University, where he currently serves on the Board of Trustees. He also serves on the Lads-to-Leaders Board of Directors. Jeff is blessed to be involved in many gospel meetings and lectureships. He is co-founder and co-director of The Jenkins Institute which is committed to helping preachers. Jeff and his wife, Laura, have two children, Amanda Jenkins Scott and Jeremy Jenkins. They are greatly enjoying their three grandchildren.
J. Terry Johnson
J. Terry Johnson grew up in Springfield, Missouri, where he graduated from Parkview High School in 1960. He received a B. A. degree from Oklahoma Christian College in 1964 and a J. D. from Southern Methodist University in 1967. Johnson returned to Oklahoma Christian College in 1968 teaching business and social science classes and serving as the College’s Staff Counsel. In 1974, at the age of 31, he was inaugurated as the third president of Oklahoma Christian College, a position he held until 1996 when he was named Chancellor. He retired from the University in December 2000. He has authored ten books since his retirement. Johnson and his wife Marty currently live in Horseshoe Bay, Texas. They have two married daughters and seven grandchildren.
Jennifer Lewis grew up as a missionary’s daughter in the Northeastern United States. She met her husband, Mike, at Northeastern Christian Junior College in Villanova, PA and together they attended Oklahoma Christian University. Mike and Jennifer have worked with the church on a full-time basis in Oklahoma, Missouri, Pennsylvania and Texas. They also travel regularly for speaking engagements across the U.S. The Lewises reside in Highland Village, Texas where Mike is the preacher for the Flower Mound church of Christ. Jennifer is the Tuesday morning ladies’ class teacher and the founder/director of EWES Camp, a Christian leadership camp for high school girls. By profession, Jennifer teaches piano and voice to local children. Mike and Jennifer have three children; Joseph who is married to Courtney, Alexa (20) and Jana (19).
Wes McAdams is the preaching minister for the McDermott Road congregation in Plano, Texas, where he has served since December of 2016. Wes has also served congregations in Midland, Texa, Leachville, Arkansas, Hot Springs, Arkansas, and Abilene, Texas. He is the author of, The Treasure Chest of Grace and blogs regularly at RadicallyChristian.com. He and his wife, Hollee have two sons, Malachi (8) and Noah (6).
Chris is a fourth generation New Zealand national. He grew up on a farm in the central North Island of New Zealand. It was while Chris was traveling around the world for three years that he became a Christian in Southern California. He would later meet Melinda in Limerick, Ireland and get married in west Texas. Chris has three children and three grandchildren. He went through the South Pacific Bible College. He has been a missionary in New Zealand for over 36 years where he preaches and evangelizes and encourages churches and leaders both in New Zealand and the South Pacific and beyond.
He is a city boy from San Francisco who was a gangbanger before Jesus reversed the nature of his life. After he converted to Christ, he could have focused on any number of careers, but he wanted to share the gospel and minister. He is married and has three children. He has a B.A. from FHU and is currently working on his M.Div. He has been doing local work in California since 2010. Currently, he serves as an evangelist for the Highland church of Christ in Bakersfield, CA.
Dr. Harold Redd is a native of Meeker, Oklahoma. He began preaching as a young man. He has preached more than forty-three years for congregations in Oklahoma City (3), West Memphis, AR (16) and Memphis, TN (24). He currently preaches for the Midtown and Raleigh Springs congregations in Memphis. He graduated from Oklahoma Christian University of Science and Arts in Oklahoma City (BA); Harding School of Theology in Memphis, TN (MTh); and Abilene Christian, University in Abilene, TX (DMin). He has been married to Joyce Ann Redd for nearly forty-one years and they have nine children, five grandchildren and the sixth one on the way.
Jana Rucker and her husband Barry live in Searcy, AR where they are members of the College Church of Christ and are involved with the college ministry. They have two grown sons, Jamie and John. Jana serves as vice president for university communications and enrollment for Harding University.
David became the President of Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, TN in 2017. He had previously served as the preacher at Mt. Juliet church or Christ in Mt. Juliet, TN and at the East Gadsden church in Gadsden, AL over the previous 26 years. He received his B.S. in finance at Freed-Hardeman in 1989. He married Traci (Barnes) Shannon in 1988 and they have four children and two grandchildren.
He was born in Louisville, KY and reared in TN. He married Patricia Finch in 1957 and they have three children. He began preaching at age 16 in 1952 and has preached on a sustained basis in TN, KS, TX and England. In addition, he served as a missionary in Great Britain for over 10 years. Following that he taught at Harding School of Theology for over 21 years (Missiology and Preaching) and then served six years as Chair of the Department of Missions at Abilene Christian University. He received his B.A. from Lipscomb University, an M.A. from London Bible College, Oxford University, and a Doctor of Missiology from Fuller Theological Seminary.
James Tommy South
Tommy is married to Linda Doan South since 1967. They have three adult children: Stacy L. Harris, Kurtis N. South, Kent T. South as well as three grandchildren. He currently serves as the preaching minister at the Glen Allen Church of Christ in Glen Allen, VA and as an adjunct instructor (Religious Studies) at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. He received a B.A. in English from Texas Tech University, an M.A. from Abilene Christian University, and a Ph. D. in New Testament and Early Christianity from the University of Virginia. He has served as a minister in MO, WY, TX, VA and has been on more than 40 short-term mission trips to the Ukraine beginning in 1992 and continuing to the present. He has written several books and articles.
Serving the Fishinger and Kenny Road's congregation in Columbus, Ohio since 1984, Gregory Alan Tidwell is the editor of the Gospel Advocate magazine.
Mike has served the Westside congregation in Midland, TX for almost 20 years. He and his wife Cherie met at Freed-Hardeman and have been married almost 35 years. They have 2 children and 2 (really wonderful) grandchildren (with another one on the way). Mike averages preaching or teaching over 300 times per year. He has preached in 36 different states and in 6 foreign countries. He has done considerable work with World Video Bible School, and also serves as an adjunct instructor at Bear Valley Bible Institute in Denver, CO.
Wesley Walker is the Preaching Minister for the Woodson Chapel Church of Christ in Nashville, TN. He is a graduate of the Bear Valley Bible Insitute and received his M.Div at Freed-Hardeman University. Wesley has preached in gospel meetings, lectureships, and seminars throughout the United States, Western Europe, and Central America. He currently serves as a teacher for the Nashville School of Preaching and Biblical Studies and in the Bear Valley Graduate School Program. He is a frequent contributor to brotherhood magazines. Wesley is married to Amanda and has three children, Presley (6), Audrey (3), and Emmett (1).
Noel C. Whitlock
Noel was born in Farmington, NM in 1961, but spent most of his growing up years in Enid, OK where he graduated from Enid High in 1979. He attended David Lipscomb University before transferring to Oklahoma Christian where he graduated in 1986 with a B.S. in Speech Communications and minors in Bible and Biblical Languages. He has done graduate work at Oklahoma Christian University and the Austin Graduate School of Theology. Noel and Lael met while students at OC and were married in 1985 (32 years). They have two grown daughters: Joelle (24) and Natalie (20). Noel has served congregations in Tulsa, OK, Kaufman, TX, and Round Rock, TX. He has been the preaching minister for the College Church of Christ in Searcy since August, 2006.
