Speaker Biographies Affirming the Faith 2017
Steve Bailey is the Preaching Minister for the Brown Street Church of Christ. Prior to coming to Brown Street in 2016, he had preached for 30 years and had also served as a youth minister in Dallas, Texas; Del City, Oklahoma; and Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. His most recent preaching position was with the Mesquite Church of Christ in Mesquite, Texas. Steve earned his Bachelor's Degree in Religious Education from Oklahoma Christian College, and a Master of Biblical and Related Studies from Abilene Christian University. Steve and his wife, Keitha, have two children and three grandchildren.
Jeremie Beller has been with the Wilshire Church of Christ in Oklahoma City as Congregational Minister since 2002. Jeremie also serves as an Adjunct Professor of Bible and Communication for Oklahoma Christian University. He completed his BA, MA, and MDiv degrees from Oklahoma Christian. He also earned a PhD from the University of Oklahoma in Communication and Persuasion. He is a frequent speaker at local congregations having spoken at over 60 churches across 7 states, as well as several universities. Jeremie and his wife Delaina were married in 1999 and they have two children: Keaton (age 9) and Kayden (age 5).
Dr. Bob Carpenter
Dr. Bob Carpenter serves as a professor of ministry and missions in the College of Biblical Studies at Oklahoma Christian. He has a doctorate in Religious Studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Bob has been teaching undergraduate and graduate courses at Oklahoma Christian since 1998 in the areas of missions, world religions, cultural anthropology, cross-cultural ministry, and comparative worldviews. In addition to coordinating recruitment and training at Oklahoma Christian for Let’s Start Talking short-term mission projects, he has led short-term mission teams on Let’s Start Talking projects and other trips to Brazil, Russia, and Turkey. Bob and his wife Donna, an Oklahoma Christian graduate, served for ten years as part of a mission team in Brasilia, the capital of Brazil, from 1981 to 1991. Bob serves as an elder at the Memorial Road Church of Christ in Edmond.
Billy is married to Shayla and they have one son, Caleb, who is 3 years old. Billy grew up in Mustang, Ok and Shayla in Corona, New Mexico. They taught and coached at Dallas Christian School in Mesquite, Tx, and Caddo Kiowa Technology Center in Ft. Cobb, Ok. Billy began fulltime ministry in Ft. Cobb in 2005. They spent 7 years in Ft. Cobb and the last 4 years they have been working with the Lord’s church in Sayre, Ok!
Dale grew up in the fourth generation of Hartman’s who attended the Sayre church of Christ in Western Oklahoma. He attended Oklahoma Christian University, Harding Graduate School, and Macquarie University in Sydney. While at Oklahoma Christian he met his wife Sheila. They have three married children (a son and two daughters) and seven grandchildren. They lived in Sydney for nearly twelve years and he continues to make annual trips to work with the church in Australia. They were supported by the Eastside congregation while working in Australia. Eastside asked them to work with them when they returned in December of 1991. Dale currently serves as the pulpit minister and as one of the elders. He has completed thirty-eight years with the Eastside congregation.
Thomas Jackson has been married for 23 years. He and his wife, Karla, are the proud parents of two children: Dillon (22) and Kayla (18). He has a doctorate of philosophy degree in Theology and Clinical Psychology and has been involved in behavioral health for 21 years. He is the author of several books. He also has several published DVD sets that include material on such topics as the family and has published several articles. He currently serves as the Chair of the Department of Counseling and Family Studies for the School of Religious Studies (SRS) in Little Rock, AR., and as an Adjunct Psychology Professor for Freed-Hardeman University.
Jeff A. Jenkins
Jeff serves the Lewisville church of Christ as the preaching minister. He has been preaching for more than thirty-five years. He is a graduate of Freed-Hardeman University, where he currently serves on the Board of Trustees. He also serves on the Lads-to-Leaders Board of Directors. Jeff is blessed to be involved in many gospel meetings and lectureships. He is co-founder and co-director of The Jenkins Institute which is committed to helping preachers. Jeff and his wife, Laura, have two children, Amanda Jenkins Scott and Jeremy Jenkins. They are greatly enjoying their grandchildren, Evie & Ever Scott.
Aubrey Johnson is the preacher for the Southern Hills Church of Christ in Franklin, Tennessee and a frequent writer for Gospel Advocate Magazine. Aubrey is the author of nine books designed for adult Bible Class study. His latest book addresses the topic of Christian marriage and is called “The Best Husband Ever: The Challenge of Loving Like Jesus.” Aubrey also conducts Dynamic Deacons and Effective Elders Seminars for equipping leaders in local churches. Phillip Johnson is in his thirteenth year of ministry at the Westside church of Christ in Norman, OK where he currently serves as the pulpit minister. He is married to Shannon Winn. They have been married for 23 years and have one daughter, Jalen, who is currently a freshman at Norman North High School. Phillip received his Bachelor’s from the University of Oklahoma in Science Education. He also received a Master’s in Education from Oklahoma State University in Curriculum and Instruction. Before entering the ministry full time, Phillip worked as a teacher and administrator in Oklahoma public schools. Phillip has written several Bible study books including the iGrow Devotional book. He directs a church camp at Pettijohn Springs Christian Camp and works extensively in the development of young preachers.
Bill has been preaching for the past 40 years. He is currently in his second work (preaching at Stratford for 37 years). He has been married to Linda for 43 years and they have two sons, Bill and Michael.
Michael Mazzalongo began his preaching and teaching ministry in Montreal, Quebec, in 1979. He was educated at Oklahoma Christian University and served as the Dean of Students for that institution from 1991 to 1993. He has preached for several congregations in Canada and the United States. In his career he has specialized in the use of various “Medias” in the work of the local church. These have included radio, television, and more recently the internet where his teaching website BibleTalk.tv counts over 12,000 monthly visitors who download thousands of videos, eBooks and audio lessons each month. He has written over 25 books. Michael is married to Lise and together they have four children and eleven grandchildren. He presently serves as Education and Media minister for the Choctaw Church of Christ.
Dana and her husband BJ live in Stillwater, Oklahoma with their 8-year old Joshua. They worship with the Stillwater church of Christ, where BJ serves as Family Minister. Dana has worked with Abilene Christian University for the last sixteen years as an English professor, Director of Graduate Studies in English, and currently as the online Dissertation Manager. They have two grown sons, David and Jonathan.
Jason joined the Waterview staff as the Preaching Minister in July 2015. Jason loves preaching the Word of God when the church meets together. His favorite kind of preaching is “open Bible” preaching straight from Scripture as he applies the ancient truth to modern, 21st century living. Very often he will lead the congregation in a study of an entire book of the Bible over the course of several weeks or months. Jason and his wife, Candi, have been married since July 10, 1992. They are the proud parents of two faithful Christians: Nic and Lindlee. Jason has also served as the preaching minister in congregations in Alabama and Tennessee. He has also been involved in short term mission works in Mexico City, Jamaica, Peru and Belize. His ministry career spans over 25 years. Jason’s educational background includes a BA in Biblical Studies from Faulkner University (1992) and a Master of Ministry from Freed Hardeman University (1998).
Dr. Howard Norton
Dr. Howard Norton began preaching by appointment when he was 16 years old. At different times in his life, he has worked as: an elder, pulpit minister, associate minister, youth minister, educational minister, minister of personal evangelism, foreign missionary to Brazil and Honduras, Harding University Bible and missions professor, director of Harding’s annual lectureship, professor and dean of the College of Bible at Oklahoma Christian University, editor of the Christian Chronicle, Church & Family magazine, and the Arkansas Christian Herald. Howard serves as an elder of the College Church of Christ in Searcy, Arkansas. He is also one of the directors of the Pan American Lectureship. The Nortons frequently do mission work in Brazil and Honduras. He and Jane have been married 60 years. They have three children, seven grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.
Melvin has served as an Associate Professor of Law at Faulkner University, and the Jones School of Law since August 2014. Prior to this, he worked for the US Department of Justice in Washington, DC as a trial lawyer and preached for the Georgia Avenue congregation in DC. He writes for Christian publications and preaches in gospel meetings, lectures and seminars. He received his formal education from St. Louis University (BS), Howard University School of Law (JD), and Amridge University (BS and MDiv). He and his wife, Jania, have two sons (Caleb and Christian). They worship and work with the Dalraida congregation in Montgomery, AL.
Keith Parker has been married to Sandra Daniel Parker for 39 years and they have three children: Jeremy (Pete) is 34, Ashley is 30 and Jessica is 27. He also has three beautiful grandchildren. Keith is a native of Huntsville, Alabama where he began preaching at the age of 17. He attended Freed-Hardeman University where he received a B.A. in Bible and Lipscomb University where he received a Masters in Religion. Keith began his ministry at the Green Forest Church of Christ in Poplar Bluff, Missouri where he preached for 5 years. He then preached at the Maple Hill Church of Christ in Lebanon, Tennessee for the next 8 ½ years. Most recently Keith served as the pulpit minister for the Hendersonville Church of Christ in Hendersonville, Tennessee for 16 ½ years. He still makes his home in Hendersonville and for the last 7 years has been in full-time meeting work, preaching for about 50 different congregations each year.
Denny is married to the former Kathy Roberts. They have been married since January, 1978. They have three children (Lance, Brett and Laura), and five grandchildren (Chloe, Ashlyn, Sophie, Easton and Brelyn). He has served as the President of the Bear Valley Bible Institute since 2004 and has been a full time instructor since 1985. He has preached in Mississippi, Arkansas, Nebraska and Colorado. He has taught numerous classes for the World Video Bible School and has authored several books and commentaries. He graduated from the Bear Valley School of Preaching (now Bear Valley Bible Institute), received an AA degree in Bible (York College, York, Nebraska), BA in Bible and Biblical Languages (Harding University), MA in Old and New Testaments (Harding Graduate School of Religion), and a Ph.D. in Religious Education (University of Nebraska).
Tim Pyles received his education in Bible and ministry at Lipscomb University: B.A. (1985), M.A. (2000). He has served with churches in Australia, Hawaii, Tennessee, Alabama, Texas, and Oklahoma. For nine years he served as the preaching minister for the McDermott Road church in Plano, Texas. He has been involved in mission trips to Papua New Guinea, South Africa, Nigeria, Estonia, Ukraine, Honduras, and Mexico. Since 2009 he has served as the preaching minister for the Broken Arrow (Oklahoma) Church of Christ. Tim and his wife Kim have been married for 28 years and have two children: Hannah and Coleman.
Jeremy is a graduate of Oklahoma Christian and the Bear Valley Bible Institute. He has served as an Associate Minister in Colorado and as an intern in the Edmond area. Jeremy and his wife Carrie began their work with the North MacArthur congregation in December of 2013. They have one daughter, Darci.
David Roper has preached for over sixty years in Oklahoma, Texas, and Arkansas. He and his family also worked ten years in Australia. He was the first director and speaker for the Truth in Love TV program. For fifteen years, he wrote full-time for Truth for Today. He is author of numerous books and booklets, including six and a half volumes in the Truth for Today Commentary Series. He also writes for children. He and his wife have three children and six grandchildren, including one granddaughter-in-law and two foster grandchildren.
